Vicbred Eligibility Shift for SA & Tas Foals

Foals bred in South Australia and Tasmania by non‑Victorian stallions will no longer be eligible for Vicbred under the updated framework released by Harness Racing Victoria. Foals conceived before 1 July 2026 remain eligible under existing rules, but all future matings will fall under the tightened criteria.

HRV has also adjusted several bonus levels across the program:

  • 2 & 3YO Vicbred Platinum/Pure — $8,000 (+$1,000)
  • 4YO Vicbred Platinum/Pure — $6,000 (+$1,000)
  • 5YO+ Vicbred Platinum/Pure — $0 (–$2,500)
  • 2 & 3YO Vicbred — $5,000 (–$2,000)
  • 4YO Vicbred — $4,000 (–$1,000)
  • 5YO Vicbred — $0 (–$2,500)

HRV says the changes are designed to tighten the scheme’s focus on Victorian‑based breeding activity, with the eligibility shift being the most significant impact for SA and Tas breeders.

Maharajah Retired

Trainer Heather Stevens has confirmed the retirement of her stable star Maharajah after the gelding suffered a second suspensory injury. A winner of both the Port Pirie and Strathalbyn Cups during a 15‑win career, Maharajah was part‑owned by long‑time stable client Gary McGinty. Stevens and McGinty still enjoyed success on Saturday night at Globe Derby, with The Reginator scoring a strong win.
