Great to see South Australian-owned Buzz Bomb continuing his strong form with victory at Menangle on Saturday night.

Previously trained in South Australia by Paul Cavallaro for a group of owners that included former HRSA Chairman Chris Hartwig, Buzz Bomb is now in the powerful Luke McCarthy stable.

Driven by Jack Callaghan, the five-year-old son of Art Major stopped the clock in a slick 1:50.5 mile, continuing an impressive run of form.

The victory was Buzz Bomb’s third win from his past five starts.

September features receive prizemoney boost

There will be some extra money up for grabs at Globe Derby in September, with the South Australian Harness Racing Club (SAHRC) directing additional prizemoney towards four feature events.

The SAHRC and Seymour Group Derby will carry $20,000, including a $9,000 contribution from the SAHRC, while the Kevin and Kay Seymour Lordship Stakes and Ladyship Stakes will each be worth $15,000, boosted by $4,000 from the club.

The Kevin and Kay Seymour 4 & 5-Year-Old Championship will also carry $15,000, with the SAHRC contributing an additional $7,000.

September will bring to a close the SAHRC’s two-year commitment to boosting prizemoney for Saturday night meetings at Globe Derby.

Over that period, the club has contributed more than $1 million to South Australian harness racing.

Welcome support for SA breeders

South Australian breeders will receive some welcome assistance, with Harness Racing SA (HRSA) covering the cost of microchipping and DNA sample collection for foals bred in the state during the most recent breeding season.

The subsidy applies when samples are collected by HRSA-approved veterinarians as part of the requirements under the national horse registration framework.

The initiative provides breeders with some relief from the costs associated with registering their foals.

HRSA will review the program before deciding whether the subsidy will continue for foals born during the 2026/27 breeding season.
