Hill Siblings Get the Call for Australian Drivers Championship.

Wayne & Dani Hill to represent South Australia at the Australian Drivers Championship

August 16-2026

South Australian driving stars Wayne and Dani Hill will carry the home-state hopes when the Australian Drivers Championship is staged at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, October 3.

Harness Racing South Australia CEO Heath Pocock revealed the brother-and-sister combination as South Australia’s representatives during an appearance on Piranha Media’s Taking the Reins.

The selections are fitting given the siblings’ continued dominance of the South Australian driving ranks.

Wayne and Dani finished first and second in last season’s South Australian Drivers Premiership, and both have continued to pile up the winners this season.

Wayne will be no stranger to the pressure of the national championship, having won the Australian Drivers Championship in 2016, while Dani went close to claiming the title herself when finishing runner-up the previous year.

Wayne gave another reminder of his outstanding form at Globe Derby on Saturday night, producing a five-win driving haul at the venue that will host this year’s championship.

He has now driven 104 winners in South Australia this season, while Dani is also enjoying another highly successful campaign with 83 winners.

Having two of the state’s most successful and experienced drivers representing South Australia on their home track should provide plenty of local interest when some of the country’s leading reinsmen and reinswomen descend on Globe Derby in October.

For Wayne, it will be an opportunity to add a second Australian Drivers Championship to his résumé, while Dani will be looking to go one better than her previous runner-up finish.

Gawler Resurfacing Plans Hit a Hurdle

Meanwhile, HRSA’s plans to resurface the Gawler harness racing track have encountered an unexpected hurdle.

The popular circuit is scheduled for resurfacing, but HRSA is currently having difficulty sourcing a suitable material for the project.

Finding the right surface material is an important part of the process, with HRSA needing to ensure any replacement provides a safe, consistent and durable racing surface.

The resurfacing remains planned, with the industry now awaiting further developments as HRSA works through the available options for the Gawler circuit.
